Hi. I'm new to this forum. My brother passed away recently and left me his 91 Savage. He had a degenerative disease that prevented him from riding the bike for the last five years. Until now it was sitting in storage in my dad's garage. I have tried starting the bike, with great difficulty, but had it running very briefly before it slowly choked out and died. I did not get an owner's manual with the bike, so I'm not sure if I'm following the correct procedure to get it started (combination of choke/throttle, fuel petcock position). With the petcock in the "on" position and the carb fully choked, it floods to the point that fuel is leaking from somewhere, can't pinpoint location.
I want to buy a Clymer manual to overhaul the bike, but they don't cover this particular year. This is a Canadian bike. I know that the Savage was unavailable in the U.S. for a while. Will the 86-88 manual be okay. The only difference I know of is that in 86-88 the bike was only a four speed, in 91 it became a five speed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This bike was my brother's pride and joy.
